Every now and then one of my male patients over 40 will come to me with a set of symptoms that made me alert to the possibility that perhaps too much estrogen in their system. That's right, a female hormone, estrogen.

my male patients are always surprised when I tell them that all men should have a certain amount of estrogen to be healthy, just like all women need a certain amount of testosterone, the male hormone, to keep your system functioning optimally. Although women stop estrogen production in menopausal women, men continue to make estrogen throughout their lives!

This is when the ratio of estrogen testosterone gets out of balance and there is too much estrogen in the male system that undesirable symptoms and physical changes, as well as problematic health problems can start happening. Like my male patients, probably wondering, how does one get too much estrogen and what you can do about it? Let me answer that question by explaining how estrogen works in man, and how to keep your estrogen load in the normal state.

Good Estrogen, Bad Estrogen

As I mentioned above, all men need a certain amount of estrogen to your hormonal system in balance and correctly. However, one needs a very small amount compared to what women need. Estrogen in the possession of a beneficial health benefits such as:

• Keeps your hormonal system is functioning normally.
• Aids memory.
• Strengthens heart health.
• keeps the bones from fractures, as a man grows older.
• Protects the sperm count and allows people to father children late in their lives.

With all these good effects of estrogen, one might think, if something is good, then more would be even better! Not so where is all the hormones is a delicate balance. Too much estrogen can lead to such side issues:

• Weight gain, more feminine body is pear-shaped, with enlarged breasts sore nipples
• testicular atrophy and low libido
• Loss of muscle mass
• Greater risk of breast cancer
• Atherosclerosis, or hardening of the coronary arteries
• The Lethal blood clots
• Heart attack
• Stroke

• Stroke

...
• Stroke

...

• Obesity: Body fat stores the enzyme aromatase that converts testosterone to estrogen. Too much body fat, too aromatase, too much estrogen.

• environmental oestrogens: the use of heating plastics, such as food in the microwave, it can expose you to Bisphenol A, a common cleaning products can expose you to nonylphenol and benzophenones are found in cosmetics, sunblocks, soaps, perfumes. All the chemicals that act like estrogen in the body.

• Foods. Certain foods also have any estrogenic effects, or are opposed to testosterone, such as soybean, grapefruit, licorice, black cohosh

• Substances: Smoking marijuana can lead to elevated levels of estrogen that causes weight gain. Drinking too much alcohol, especially beer, which contains estrogen promotion of hops, it can lead to too much estrogen in your system.

How to reduce estrogen load

Now you know why, as a man, your estrogen / testosterone levels can get out of whack, there are some pretty simple ways to reduce estrogen load, which include:

• Lose weight -. Reduces the enzyme aromatase that helps store estrogen in body fat

• Avoid environmental estrogens: If using a microwave food, buy those packed in hard paper, not plastic, or remove the frozen food and place in a glass bowl before microwaving to prevent leaching of bisphenol A in food.

• Do you eat. Stay away from soy products, and even "healthy" sports / protein bars, which often contain synthetic soy protein isolate

• balancing estrogen supplements: You'll want to make sure that you are getting enough zinc, selenium, flaxseed, calcium D-glucarate, diindolymethane (DIM) is present in cruciferous vegetables, and herb called Tribulus terrestris, all of which can help keep your estrogen levels balanced, of course.

As a man gets older, his system is constantly trying to maintain the complex balance of normal hormone levels. Slow metabolism, weight gain creeps up, and before you know it might be making too much estrogen which can cause a whole host of other problems.

However, if you follow my recommendations listed above, you should be able to keep your estrogen and testosterone levels normal, balanced so that you can enjoy a good, protective heart bone and benefits of estrogen and memory power, energy and masculinity, and the benefits of testosterone in his advancing years! Always a pleasure to provide you with the best.
